BFT Gate Motor Replacement: The Boca Raton Owner’s Guide
A BFT gate motor replacement in Boca Raton typically runs between $650 and $1,400 installed, depending on the model series and whether the arm bracket survived the failure. We stock BFT-compatible motors and controllers on the truck and can usually complete the swap the same day we diagnose it. Most homeowners figure out the motor has failed when the gate stops mid-travel, grinds hard against the stop, or the display shows a fault that won’t clear.
We’re an independent gate service company in Boca Raton, not a BFT dealer or affiliate. What that means for you: we match the motor to the gate, not to a sales quota. If a controller board is the actual failure and the motor still tests good, that’s what we’ll tell you.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT has used several motor platforms across its swing and slide gate lines since the early 2000s. The motors we replace most often in Boca Raton fall into these families:
- BFT Deimos / Phobos series: 24V swing-gate operators common on residential driveway gates. The Deimos BT A400 and A600 are the two sizes we see most. The A400 handles leafs up to about 9 feet; the A600 steps up to 13 feet.
- BFT Rigel / Icaro series: older AC-powered swing motors, now mostly discontinued but still in service across Boca Raton’s older gated communities.
- BFT Maxima Ultra / ORO series: slide-gate motors, typically found on wider commercial or long-driveway installations.
The fastest way to identify what you have is to open the plastic cover and read the label: model number, voltage (24V vs 110V), and serial are printed on a silver sticker on the motor body or the control board housing. Before you call, snap a photo of that label. It saves a trip and tells us immediately whether we’re carrying the right replacement board or motor that day.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for BFT, we generally recommend OEM or BFT-licensed replacement boards and motors. The BFT control logic is less tolerant of generic third-party boards than some other brands. A quality aftermarket cap or limit switch is fine; the brain of the unit should stay BFT-compatible.
Signs Your BFT Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing

- The gate opens a few feet and stops. Usually a failing capacitor or a motor that’s lost torque. The control board senses the resistance and faults out to protect itself.
- The motor runs but the gate doesn’t move. The internal plastic gear or the arm coupling has stripped. BFT uses a nylon gear in several swing models specifically so that gear fails before the more expensive motor body does.
- A burning smell or visible scorch marks at the motor housing. Florida humidity plus aging capacitors is a bad combination. The capacitor swells, leaks, and eventually shorts hot.
- The display shows a persistent fault code that won’t clear with a power cycle. Some codes indicate a motor overcurrent condition. If the motor draws high amps under no load, replacement is the honest fix.
- The gate moves but loses position and re-learns repeatedly. The encoder or limit system is failing. On BFT units this can be the motor encoder ring itself, not just a limit switch adjustment.
In Boca Raton’s coastal air, salt and humidity accelerate capacitor failures and board corrosion. We pull motors from gates a few blocks off A1A that look like they spent a decade in a sponge. That’s not a defect; it’s geography. Plan for a shorter service life on any unsealed electronic part within a mile of the Intracoastal.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what BFT gate motor replacement currently runs in Boca Raton, parts and labor included:
- Deimos/Phobos 24V motor replacement: $650-$950 installed, controller board included if needed
- Rigel/Icaro AC motor replacement: $750-$1,100 installed, typically with a fresh capacitor and limit service
- Maxima Ultra/ORO slide motor: $950-$1,400 installed, depending on access and the condition of the rack
- Control board only (motor tests good): $280-$480 installed
The range exists because of arm bracket condition, motor type, and whether the gearbox coupling transfers cleanly. If the arm bracket is cracked or the mounting plate is warped, that adds material time. The written price we hand you before work starts covers the motor, installation, limit recalibration, and the full test cycle. There’s no separate line item for “miscellaneous” you find out about later. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the number is on the page before anything gets unbolted.
Every replacement includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the motor faults again within a year, we’re back and it’s on us.
DIY or Call Us?

A BFT gate motor replacement involves line voltage or 24V power, torque to lift the arm and leaf, and a recalibration sequence that is easy to get wrong. A mis-set limit means the gate slams past its stop or shorts the motor windings. We’d rather you not spend $400 on a part and an afternoon on the driveway, only to have the fault light blink at you.
You can safely check a few things before calling. Is the breaker on? Is the manual release disengaged? Is there visible corrosion or a swollen capacitor at the board? Beyond that, it’s a technician’s job. Call us at (754) 666-7602. We’ll have a real person on the phone, and we’ll give you a written price before the motor comes off the mount.
FAQs
Realistically, 7 to 10 years in this climate, less if the gate is within a mile of salt water. Capacitors fail first, then boards, then the motor body itself. A well-maintained Deimos can push past 12 years if the gate is balanced and the surges are handled.
Sometimes. A swollen capacitor, a failed limit switch, or a burned relay on the control board is repairable. A stripped gear, a shorted winding, or a seized gearbox is a replacement. We’ll test it and tell you which one you’re looking at before any money changes hands. Call (754) 666-7602 for an honest diagnosis.
Most BFT swing motor replacements are done in 60 to 90 minutes on site, including limit recalibration and a full open/close test cycle. Slide motors with rack damage can run two hours plus. You’ll get a photo log of the work when we leave.
We stock BFT-compatible Deimos, Phobos, and common control boards on the truck. Older Rigel and Icaro motors may need a 24-hour order. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, so if your property has mixed equipment we can handle it in one visit. Call (754) 666-7602 and we’ll tell you what’s on the truck today.
