DoorKing Access Control Installation: The Boca Raton Owner’s Guide

DoorKing access control installation in Boca Raton typically runs between $450 and $1,300 when we handle the full job: sourcing the correct board or component, installing it, verifying all wiring, and testing entry at the gate and from the phone. We stock DoorKing-compatible access control parts on our trucks, and in most Boca Raton neighborhoods, we can complete the job the same day we show up. Most owners discover a failed access control component the hard way: the keypad stops accepting a code, the telephone entry system drops a call mid-gate-cycle, or a vehicle detection loop stops sensing a car sitting in the driveway lane. The gate motor itself is usually fine. The problem sits upstream, in the control board.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

The access control side of a DoorKing system covers the 1800-series telephone entry units, the 1515 and 1601 series keypads, and the control boards inside the 9150, 9100, and 6500 gate operators. DoorKing has used several control board generations over the years, and this is where most Boca Raton owners get tripped up: a board listed for a 9150 made before 2012 does not always swap cleanly into a 9150 manufactured after 2016. The terminal layout changed. If you are ordering a board yourself, match it by the revision code printed on the board itself, not just by the operator model number. As an independent service provider, we are not affiliated with DoorKing, and when an OEM board is backordered, we will tell you what is genuinely equivalent versus what just fits the screw holes. In our experience, the OEM board is usually the right choice on telephone entry systems. For keypads and loop detectors, a known aftermarket replacement often performs identically for twenty to thirty percent less.

Signs Your DoorKing Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Keypad accepts some codes but not others. Often this is a failing membrane or worn key contacts on the 1515 or 1601. Before replacing the whole pad, we check the wiring from the keypad back to the control board; South Florida humidity corrodes those terminals faster than inland locations.
  • Telephone entry unit calls the house but the gate never opens. The call function works, but the relay on the control board is not closing. That is usually a blown relay or a cold solder joint on the 1800-series main board.
  • The gate opens for a visitor but will not close after they pass. A dead vehicle loop detector means the board no longer sees a car in the lane, so it defaults to holding the gate open. We replace the loop detector and test the loop wire in the pavement before we call it done.
  • Keypad lights up but the gate ignores every entry. On DoorKing units, this is frequently a data-communication fault between the keypad and the board, not the keypad itself. We trace that with a meter before we sell a part.
  • Humming or clicking from the board but nothing moves. That click is the relay trying to fire. If the operator motor is healthy, the problem lives in the board’s output stage. We confirm the motor is good first, so you are not paying for two repairs when one failed board was the cause.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed access control replacement in Boca Raton runs from $450 to $1,300 depending on which DoorKing component failed and whether we are swapping a keypad or a full control board. A keypad replacement is the lower end: the part plus an hour or so of wiring and testing. A telephone entry board or a 9150-series main board lands mid-range. A full access control retrofit with a new keypad, board, and loop detector pushes toward the top. Parts and labor are separate lines on the written estimate we hand you before any tool leaves the truck. The written price includes the part, the install, full commissioning, and the same 365-Day Done Right Promise we apply to every repair: if it is not right, we make it right at no additional charge.

You can safely check a few things before calling: confirm the transformer is plugged in and switched on, look for a blown fuse on the board, and check whether the keypad is visibly cracked or moisture-clouded. That is where we would draw the line. DoorKing access control boards run on 24VAC but they sit next to 115V or even 230V supply wiring inside the operator cabinet. One wrong probe against a live terminal will damage the board and can hurt you. There is also a real sequence problem: DoorKing boards power up in a specific order, and if the lock relay fires while the gate is mid-travel, you can damage the operator. If you have no meter or no wiring diagram, call us at (754) 666-7602. We will name what we found, name the price, and leave the gate working.
